The Challenge
In November of 2022, XPO Logistics spun off part of its business into its own publicly traded company called RXO Inc. This meant that RXO had to create its own team to support the operations of the new company, which included finding staff to support its real estate pipeline. The facilities management team that used to support the RXO division was originally made up of three people and ended up as just one person after the divestiture. In addition, this small team had to navigate a rebranding effort at all offices and develop new design standards that would give RXO its own brand identity.
Building a Team
RXO needed an additional, dedicated team of people with experience managing projects around the country. The pipeline of work could include anything from closing down sites, building out new leased offices, and moving office staff from one location to another. In addition, they would need to manage vendors for low voltage/data/AV, signage, vending/appliances, and furniture, as well as pull in RXO IT and local branch managers to get each site up and running smoothly.
Plan North Partners was selected as a trusted project management partner to bring fresh perspectives and new national vendors to the table.
The Result
Plan North Partners was able to quickly assemble a team of project managers that have experience running remote projects across North America. They were able to use the trusted vendors RXO had in place and also add some new vendors to help with the pipeline of work. RXO is still able to have a lean facilities management team and rely on consultants for most of the day-to-day work.
In 2023, Plan North Partners was able to generate a savings of 3x their fees on the five projects that they managed for RXO.
Plan North Partners has also become a trusted design partner. They walk potential sites, test fit properties, and create pricing plans. They have also created design standards for new office locations to facilitate a consistent look across all properties and help the future vendors by documenting best practices into one reference document.
