“They made things easy, It felt like there was a checklist running in the background.”
Location Northbrook, IL
Completion 2025
Type Relocation
Size 18,000 sq feet
The Challenge
After eight years in their Bannockburn, IL facility, RXO faced a critical need to relocate their freight brokerage operations to a space that better supported business growth and employee expectations. The original space was no longer meeting the mark as it lacked modern workplace features, was inconveniently located, and didn’t reflect RXO’s evolving brand and culture.
Key challenges included:
Finding a location closer to major highways to improve commuting and logistics
Expanding square footage to support future growth
Designing a modern, open office layout with updated workstations and amenities
Navigating signage restrictions to ensure RXO’s brand was visible on the building
Managing the move while balancing day-to-day responsibilities
The Solution
RXO partnered with Plan North Partners, specifically Jenny Doede and Chris Helwick, to manage the full relocation from Bannockburn, IL to Northbrook, IL. With no internal design expertise, RXO relied on the Plan North Partners team for end-to-end project support. Jenny and Chris provided hands-on design guidance, including kitchen layout and workstation planning. They created a step-by-step roadmap and weekly check-ins to keep the project on track and delivered a seamless experience that minimized workload for RXO’s internal team.
“They made things easy,” said an RXO representative. “It felt like there was a checklist running in the background.”
The Result
The Northbrook relocation was completed on time, within budget, and aligned with RXO’s operational goals and workplace culture. The new 18,000 sq. ft. office has an open floor plan and height-adjustable desks. The new location also provides easy access to highways, restaurants, and amenities for employees.
There is improved brand visibility with exterior RXO signage successfully installed facing the highway. “The signage was one of our biggest hurdles,” said Allen. “In the end, Chris from Plan North Partners was able to figure it out and put it where it was needed.”
According to an RXO representative, Plan North Partners took a lot off their plate and achieved everything RXO set out to do. “I would absolutely work with Jenny and Chris again.”
The ownership group of this North Carolina distillery leaned on Plan North Partners to help guide their major renovation project from design to completion.
When Cheetie Kumar and Paul Siler turned a failing live-work space in downtown Raleigh into a Mediterranean restaurant, Ajja was born. The owners of this restaurant hired Plan North Partners to manage the building’s comprehensive rehab, including demolition, design, and construction.
